Brian Reeves Self-Centered Portrait of Grand Rapids

created onstage at Grand Rapids Civic Theater over 3 days

It then existed Sept 22 through Oct 10 - scroll down to see more images - view video slideshow - view short video interview

It was painted in less than 3 days between Blues Clues and the ArtPrize deadline.
After Oct 10 it was reclaimed into the theater's historic scenery shop.

Here's my sketched proposal, before I knew who'd have me:

Here's an example of a smaller version (12 feet across) of the same idea created at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, MO in 1998. Kids & adults usually stepped into the center without being prompted, in order to experience seeing the whole Earth beneath their feet represented as a sphere, with the extreme, but accurately-curved perspectival distortions wrapping around them.

As with the ArtPrize 2010 piece, viewers were encouraged to stand in the center & turn all around, and the rain washed most of it away mid-day on day 2.
